How police rotation towing works in McAllen

When McAllen calls a wrecker, it uses companies that volunteer for a rotation list and agree to the City's rates.

General information, not legal advice. The papers you got from the police, the tow company, the storage lot or a state agency control your dates. Agencies change phone numbers and steps, so check the agency's own page too.

The list

Companies join the rotation list voluntarily. They must carry liability insurance naming the City, pay a $100 yearly company fee and a $35 inspection fee per truck, and agree to the rates in the Code as a condition of being on the list.

The rates

For a vehicle under three tons towed at the call of a City employee: $200, plus listed extras for high water, long waits, rollovers and distance outside city limits. Over three tons: $115 an hour, one-hour minimum.

Finding the car

We found no McAllen towed-vehicle page or lookup. State law requires the storage lot to report a nonconsent tow to the city police within two hours, so McAllen Police can be asked where the car went.
