Next Lubbock police abandoned-vehicle auction: Saturday, October 17, 2026

LPD's auction page says the next in-person abandoned-vehicle auction is Saturday, October 17 at 3209 East Slaton Highway, with registration from 8 a.m., bidding at 9 a.m., and an inspection day on Thursday, October 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Payment is by card (3% fee) or business check; cash is not accepted.

Lubbock's tow truck ordinance was updated (Ordinance 2011-O0113)

Every section of the City's tow truck article (City Code art. 24.09) carries Ordinance 2011-O0113 in its history. The article requires a City permit for nonconsent tows, adopts the state Towing and Booting Act for parking-lot tows, and says the City sets rates only for tow companies it contracts with.

Adopted November 16, 2011.

Council advanced towing of uninsured vehicles on a first offense (2011)

KCBD reported that the City Council passed on first reading, 6-0, an ordinance letting police tow a vehicle on a first no-insurance offense when it is stopped for another violation or a crash, with officer discretion. The report said owners would have to pay the tow and storage charges and show proof of insurance to get the car back.
