Is my car being sold? Lien sales and auctions in Lubbock
If a tow company or storage lot keeps a car and the bill is not paid, the car can be sold after the notices and waiting periods the law sets. The notice you get tells you which rules apply and how much time you have.
General information, not legal advice. Check your notice: the dates printed on it are the ones that count. Count calendar days unless the rule says business days.
How a towed car can be sold
Local steps
LPD sells abandoned and impounded vehicles at a monthly in-person auction at the police tow lot, run by a TDLR-licensed auctioneer. Buyers get a Police Auction Sales Receipt (Form 71-1) to take to the county tax assessor-collector for a title.
Before a police agency can auction an abandoned vehicle, state law requires it to mail a notice within 10 days of taking custody and to give the owner and lender 20 days from the notice to claim it.

Owners can check LPD's online towed-vehicle search by plate or VIN before a sale date.
