Ordinance 032867: amending the auto wrecker ordinance (2022)

Corpus Christi City Council ·

Raised the maximum wrecker fees, let the City contract with an outside company to administer parts of the wrecker program (but not law enforcement or the choice of rotation companies), gave Category B wreckers 60 minutes to respond, and widened the grounds for denying or revoking a permit. In effect October 1, 2022.

Agenda memo: amending the auto wrecker ordinance (Sept. 13, 2022)

Explains the 2022 changes. It says an officer was assigned to oversee wrecker companies, that Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, Harris County and Round Rock use tow management companies, and that the fee increase was expected to bring in about $200,000 a year, recovered from owners at pickup or from the sale of unclaimed vehicles.

Service Agreement 68061: dispatch and lot management software for impound and rotation tows

City of Corpus Christi (Police; Contracts and Procurement) ·

A five-year agreement, up to $135,000, for software used to dispatch rotation tows and manage the City impound lot. Future years are paid per tow: $3.00 for each City tow and $0.50 for each private tow. The memo estimates about 14,000 vehicles a year are towed to the City lot.

Construction contract: Police Vehicle Impound Yard and Garage, Phase 2 (Bond 2012)

City of Corpus Christi (Engineering Services; Police) ·

A $779,279.78 contract to build a 2,700-square-foot forensic garage and evidence room at the impound lot and to rebuild its parking area. The project came from Proposition 7 of the 2012 bond election, approved by voters on November 6, 2012.

Ordinance 030403: rewrite of the auto wrecker article (2015)

Replaced article V of chapter 57. The staff memo lists the changes: higher fees, no charge for dollies or go-jacks, the photo rule for private-property tows, owners' access to belongings, and larger trucks for the light rotation list. It says police held six meetings with wrecker companies from 2012 to 2014.
