Is my car being sold? Lien sales and auctions in Corpus Christi
If a tow company or storage lot keeps a car and the bill is not paid, the car can be sold after the notices and waiting periods the law sets. The notice you get tells you which rules apply and how much time you have.
General information, not legal advice. Check your notice: the dates printed on it are the ones that count. Count calendar days unless the rule says business days.
How a towed car can be sold
Local steps
Police tows: vehicles towed off the CCPD rotation list go to the City's Vehicle Impound Lot at 5485 Greenwood Dr. The tow and other fees for these tows are paid to the City at that lot.

If a police-held vehicle is not claimed, state law (Transportation Code ch. 683) sets the steps: the police agency mails a notice within 10 days, the owner has 20 days from the notice to claim it, and then it can be sold at public auction. Leftover sale money is held 90 days for the owner or lender.

Private-property tows (apartments, stores, other lots) go to privately run, state-licensed storage lots, not the City lot. Those lots follow the Vehicle Storage Facility Act notices before any sale.

The day and times here come from 2021 news reports of two Saturday auctions at the lot, with viewing the day before and online bidding. Call the lot to ask about a specific vehicle. Sources disagree: The schedule is from 2021 news reports, not an official page. A 2026 search summary described monthly auctions on the first Saturday by a different auction company; we could not confirm that on an official page. | CCPD Vehicle Impounds page; KRIS 6 News, June 29, 2021; KRIS 6 News, Aug. 2, 2021 | October 7, 2026 |
