Court rules a Tacoma tow company broke the law by auctioning service members' cars

In a case the Attorney General's Office filed in 2018, a Pierce County Superior Court judge ruled that Burns Towing Inc. of Tacoma violated the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act and the state Consumer Protection Act by auctioning active-duty service members' vehicles without a court order. The office reported that as many as 35 such vehicles were sold, and the court ordered restitution.

Ruling announced May 4, 2020.
