Towed in Arlington or Denton: what applies

Our DFW tool has city-specific rules for Dallas and Fort Worth. In Arlington and Denton it applies Texas law; here is what else we know.

General information, not legal advice. The papers you got from the police, the tow company, the storage lot or a state agency control your dates. Agencies change phone numbers and steps, so check the agency's own page too.

State law everywhere

Statewide, a private-property tow of a car costs at most $272, storage is at most $22.85 a day, signs must meet state rules, and you have 14 business days to ask a justice court for a tow hearing. In Tarrant County (which includes Arlington) and Denton County the hearing request goes to a justice court in the county the car was towed from.

Denton's rules

Since November 2024 Denton's maximum tow fee is the state amount, plus a $15 'local regulation fee' that must be listed on the tow ticket. Boot removal costs at most $85 plus $15. Storage lots must release cars at any time of day once fees are paid. For police impounds, the City refunds towing and storage fees if a court finds the impound improper.

Arlington

Arlington has a Wrecker Operations chapter in its City Code, but we could not open it to check it, so we do not state its fees. City surplus is sold through online auctions; the City's page does not say whether impounded cars are included.
